It's my first trip to the zoo with my Alpha so naturally I wanted to lug all my equipment there. Luckily.. I didn't as I only used 1 main lens throughout the trip, the 70-300mm f4.5-5.6 Minolta El-Cheapo glass. Yes, I did use my ever so versatile 28-75 mm f2.8 lens but at the zoo zoom rules. That's why you get a "zoo" in your "zoom". Nonetheless, I still brought my H1 with about 1.7x more "zoom" than my alpha and also a couple of other lenses that I didn't use at all. Shall bring my flashgun instead of these other lens in the future.
Anxiously waiting for my 70-210mm f2.8 lens soon. Then with a 2x Teleconverter I can get a fast 140-420 f5.6 lens in the future for trips to zoo.
Anyway, here's some pics I took during the half day I spent in the zoo starting from smaller stuff..
So small that you can't see it. Nay.. just a nicely woven spider web without its creator. If only the spider can be found around the web.
Super shallow DOF in these small worlds, not sufficient for a whole bug
Dragonfly resting on leaves, taken with my 70-300mm lens with a macro filter attached in front for the maximum zoom. Should have used a smaller f-stop than f8.0
A closer look brings out the hairy legs of this bug
A another crop brings out the compound eyes... creepy...
The all so common monitor lizard
I'm so close to this reptile it could touch me if it leaped from its branch
Nice pose.
That's all for today, I promise a less creepy update next time with more classic zoo animals like lions and tigers for example.
