History in the Making

News just out yesterday that Singapore will be hosting the inaugural Youth Olympics in 2010, edging out Moscow in the final round of selection. And the new University Village to be builtunder construction 5 minutes away from my (current) home will ready in Feb 2010 and to house the young athletes for this brand new event. It is a proud moment for Singapore just like it is one for China when Beijing was selected to host this year's Olympics.

It is events like these that can make Singaporeans proud of Singapore, more than what National Education can do. That is unless we screw up big time in it. (touchwood)

I can imagine the inconveniences such an event would caused to the residents in Clementi as we have 5000 sporting youths and their families and supporters moving around in this little town. Bet the new shopping mall link to MRT cum housing estate should be up by then. But then, the free public transport will most likely bring them to Orchard road and zoo rather than Clementi Central for their shopping and site seeing needs.

In totally unrelated news, some guy was arrested recently for selling R(A) movies online to pay off debts for his dad (you can read more in straitstimes.com if you access it within a week or just read the newspaper lar). It is a sad story. But I can't help but notice a few points. Dad was fired in 1999, bought new flat after jobless and started a failed bubble tea business. The main reason behind the debt. I doubt that I would be so adventurous as to start a business and buy a new flat at the same time while my child is studying in the University.

Ah well.. that's what sleeping at 8:30pm do to you... time for my antibiotics again... arghhh...
