Many things had happened in this month alone.

1.) Brown affair, where the government censures Mr Brown for his last article in Today causing Mr Miyagi to stop writing too. (That's politics, too sensitive to touch on)
2.) Smoking ban at coffeeshops officially started (Good for us, the non-smokers but bad for business in general)
3.) Taxi fare hike adjustment shortly after the coffee price went up for review

Previously, should I take a cab to work before 7am, which is about 17.5km away, my cab fare will be at least S$10.20, excluding waiting charges at $0.10 every 30 (or is it 35) seconds. With the new fare, it will be at least S$11.30, excluding waiting charges at $0.10 every 25 seconds. But the deal doesn't stop there, the biggest difference in the fare hike is at the peak hour surcharge, which increased 100% to $2.00 and timing extended by 0.5 hours and the booking surcharges.

Oh, and did you know that there is a surcharge of S$2.00 for every trip starting from Singapore Expo too?

No wonder those taxi drivers refused to work 15 minutes before the surcharges kick in as reported in the news yesterday. There were reports that taxi drivers refused to pick up passenger just before the surcharges apply even when their cab is empty.

But these same drivers forget that if they drive at a cruising speed of 60km/h, they will earn their $2.00 in about 4 minutes. Pity a few black sheeps had to cause problems for the rest of the other drivers.
